Gainesville Modern Mid-Century Modern Home Tour, March 2026

Built in 1970, Palmer House had all the makings of a great mid-century home, but needed a major overhaul. Our clients, a mother-daughter duo with a love for modern architecture, wanted to save the house and give it an entirely new life as a gathering place for their large extended family. Taking cues from the colorful, carefree spirit of Palm Springs, we set out to create something equally playful but distinctly North Floridian.

We preserved much of the original architecture, including the split-level floor plan, sunken living room, and dimensional concrete block walls, while reworking nearly every inch of the interiors. Color was central to the design from the start, with emerald-stained cabinetry, pink terrazzo, warm woods, copper, and richly patterned textiles creating a sense of continuity throughout. Vintage furniture mingles with contemporary pieces and the homeowners' extensive art collection, giving the house a collected, lived-in quality. The result is a home that celebrates its roots without being stuck in the past, and makes a pretty convincing case for a more colorful kind of Florida living.
