Since 1992, El Indio has been a family-owned favorite in Gainesville, known for fast, fresh Mexican food at its two original drive-thru locations. For their newest location in Jonesville, the family expanded their vision with a full-service restaurant and bar, inviting Chinotto House to design it.

Housed in a converted fire station, the space draws inspiration from the work of Luis Barragán, celebrating the bold spirit of Mexican modernism. Natural materials — slate, terracotta, and lime plaster — are paired with El Indio’s signature bright colors to create a layered, modern atmosphere that still feels authentic to their roots.

The centerpiece is a color-blocked tile bar, where margaritas and cocktails meet vibrant design. Large rattan light fixtures anchor the dining room with warmth and scale, while custom wood-and-leather-look banquettes line the walls beneath playful pink ceramic sconces. The bathrooms are drenched in saturated color, with walls glossy tile and matching concrete sinks. A glowing neon sign above El Indio’s classic salsa bar says it all: Caliente.

Outside, a spacious patio extends the dining experience into the Florida sun. And you can’t miss it from the road — the building’s striking pink facade has already become a Jonesville landmark.
